Kanpur has been a leather town since the 1860s and Chennai since not long after, and both still supply the finishing houses that make for European labels. That is the reason a well-made Indian leather wallet costs what it does: the same skill without the name on the front.
Read the material line rather than the photograph. Genuine leather, top grain and full grain are different things at different prices, and synthetic and vegan options are listed as such here rather than being described loosely as leather. Full grain is the one that ages well and develops a patina.
Wallets are light, which makes them one of the cheapest things to add to an order. If you are ordering something heavier anyway, the marginal shipping on a wallet is small.
