Indian face wash is built around a handful of ingredients that have been in domestic use for a very long time and have only recently become marketing words elsewhere: neem for oily and acne-prone skin, turmeric, sandalwood, and ubtan, which is the traditional gram flour and turmeric paste rather than a fragrance. Buying the Indian version usually means paying a third of what the same ingredient list costs once it has been repackaged for a Western shelf.
Two practical notes. Indian formulations tend to be built for a hot, humid climate, so they lean towards foaming gels rather than the cream cleansers that suit a dry northern winter. If you are in a cold, dry US climate, a foaming neem wash can be more stripping than you expect, and it is worth pairing with a heavier moisturiser than the bottle assumes.
Where we are the wrong answer: prescription-strength actives and anything you need this week. A cleanser is not urgent enough to be worth a rush, and skincare with unstable actives is better bought locally than shipped through a hot container.
