Coconut, amla, bhringraj and herbal hair oils in the original formulations, which are not always the versions on a Western shelf.
Available in the United States. No customs at your door.
The Indian bottle is often not the export bottle. Formulations are built for the market they sell into, and the domestic Indian version of a familiar brand tends to be heavier, more strongly fragranced and sometimes differently blended. If you grew up with one and found the version on an American shelf disappointing, that difference is real and not your imagination.
On what the oil actually does: the best evidence is for coconut oil, whose main fatty acid is small enough to penetrate the hair shaft rather than just coating it, and studies have found pre-wash coconut oil reduces the protein loss that washing causes. That is a genuine effect and it is about protection, not growth. Oil will not reverse pattern hair loss, and any product sold on that promise is overreaching.
If you have persistent scalp flaking or seborrhoeic dermatitis, oiling can make it worse rather than better, because the yeast involved feeds on some of these lipids. Common advice online misses this entirely.
