Indian oral care splits into two traditions. One is conventional fluoride toothpaste from the same global brands sold everywhere, though often in different formulations. The other is the herbal line, built on neem, clove, babool and salt, which has a much longer history locally and a following abroad among people avoiding fluoride.
Worth stating plainly: fluoride is the ingredient with the strongest evidence behind it for preventing decay. Herbal toothpastes without it may suit you for other reasons, and that is a reasonable choice to make deliberately, but it is a trade rather than a straight upgrade. Check the label if it matters to you, because it is not always obvious from the front of the box.
