Indian earring traditions are regional and worth knowing by name, because they tell you more than the price does. Temple jewellery from the south uses heavy gold plating and deity motifs. Meenakari from Rajasthan is enamel fired into metal. Oxidised silver is deliberately darkened to bring out the detail, and it is meant to look aged rather than polished.
Most of what is listed here is sterling silver or gold plated brass rather than solid gold, and every listing says which. Plated pieces last well with a little care: keep them away from perfume, hairspray and water, put them on last, and store them dry.
Jhumkas in particular are heavier than they look. If you have not worn them before, check the weight on the listing, and consider ear supports for the larger ones.
