Written more than three centuries ago and considered one of the greatest epics ever written, Paradise Lost was written by John Milton, who rose to prominence through his writings and debates in the 17th century. It recounts the Biblical tale of the fall of man and gives an account of Satan’s banishment to hell and his plan of vengeance against God’s favourite creation–man. This eleven-thousand-lines poem deals with themes such as defiance, retribution, treachery, disobedience, death and salvation and stands as a powerful voice on rebellion and the desire for redemption.
