DelGuard uses an ingenious two-part system that makes it virtually impossible to break the lead. First, a barrel spring in the pencil allows the lead to slide back into the pencil instead of breaking if too much vertical pressure is applied. Second, another spring in the tip dynamically extends the lead guard to protect the lead when too much lateral pressure is applied. DelGuard offers the best performance. When writing, if you strike the lead more than four times from the point where it won't come out, the core may break. If you use a colored core or a core thicker than 3B, the core may break.
