Oxidised jewellery is a finish rather than a material, and this is the single most misunderstood thing about it. Most Indian oxidised pieces are brass or German silver, deliberately darkened so the recesses hold shadow and the raised detail stands out. German silver, despite the name, contains no silver at all.
