Ok, it is a hockey puck made of vulcanized rubber but it works great. Tap your unweighted tuning fork against the activator to get a clear tone from your tuning fork. This is much better than a mallet because using the activator frees up your other hand to hold additional forks. The mallets you see on Amazon are also not heavy enough to create a sustained tone. The best place to put the activator is in your pocket. This way it is always available and your clothing will soften the tapping noise to maintain a quiet healing space. Although you can use it for a weighted tuning fork, the palm of your hand pinky side is a better choice for the Otto 128, Om, Low Om or other weighted forks.
