Where can I buy authentic Indian products online in the USA?
There are three realistic routes: a US-based Indian retailer, a marketplace seller shipping internationally, or an export storefront that buys in India and ships to you. Which is best depends entirely on whether the specific item has US retail supply.
For anything with real US distribution, buy locally. Common ayurvedic brands, popular hair oils and mainstream Indian groceries are stocked by US-based Indian retailers and often by Amazon US, and buying domestically will be cheaper and faster than importing. Nobody should pay international freight for something sitting in a warehouse in New Jersey.
Importing earns its cost when the item genuinely has no US supply. That is usually true of brass and copper puja items and idols, temple, kundan and meenakari jewellery from regional makers, handloom sarees and unstitched fabric, Indian musical instruments such as tabla and harmonium, and the specific formulations Indian brands sell domestically that differ from their export versions. These are the cases where a US search returns nothing and an import is the only route.
Whichever you choose, the questions worth asking are the same. Does the price include import duty, or will a courier bill you later? Is there a real company name and postal address on the site? Can you return a damaged item without shipping it back across an ocean? A seller who answers all three plainly is usually a safer bet than one with the lowest headline price.
Aalacart is the third kind. We buy from the brand or a verified seller in India and ship to the United States, Canada, the UAE and Australia with no customs at your door. We are deliberately strongest in the categories above, and we would rather tell you to buy locally than sell you an import you did not need.
Related questions
- How do I know the product is genuine and not a copy?
- Ask where the seller sources from and whether items arrive in original sealed packaging. Aalacart buys from the brand or a checked seller in India and does not repackage anything.
- Is it cheaper to ask family in India to post it?
- Often yes for one small item, and it is a perfectly sensible option. It stops being simpler once the parcel is heavy enough to need a commercial courier, or the contents need a customs declaration nobody at home wants to fill in.
- What cannot be shipped from India by air?
- Aerosols, pressurised cans, flammable liquids, and most perfumes and nail products. Appliances are a separate trap: Indian models are built for a 230V supply, which suits the UAE and Australia but not the USA or Canada.
